What the assistant can do

See what Chronica's AI assistant does, what it reads, what it can change, and how admins turn each part on or off for the firm.

What it does

The assistant works inside Chronica, on your firm's own records. It is on every plan. Each part has its own switch in Settings, under Assistant:

FeatureWhere you see it
Ask about a matterThe Ask button on a matter, Ask in search (⌘K or Ctrl K), and the Matter brief on a matter's overview
Document summaries and key factsThe Summary tab of a document, written when a PDF or Word file is uploaded
Drafting from templatesDraft with the assistant on a matter's Documents tab, and Draft our reply on a document
Next steps after a hearingSuggested next steps after you log a hearing outcome
Suggested time entriesTime you may have missed today on the Time page
Client update draftsDraft an update for the client, and Write it from my note when you record a hearing outcome
Build a chronologyThe Chronology tab on a matter
Contract reviewThe Review tab of a document, on the Chambers and Firm plans

What it reads

The assistant follows matter permissions. A person can only ask about, and get answers from, matters and documents they can already open.

Answers and summaries show where each fact came from. Answers can be wrong, so check the sources before relying on them.

The assistant does not have Nigerian case law or statutes yet. Until it does, it won't cite a case or statute it hasn't been given.

What it changes

The assistant suggests; you decide. It doesn't add anything to a matter until you click to add it:

  • A suggested task is added only when you click Add task.
  • Next steps after a hearing are added only when you tick them and click Add to the matter.
  • Suggested time entries are added only when you click Add.
  • Drafts are saved to the matter marked Needs review.
  • Client updates are never sent automatically. A lawyer must share them.

Turn features on or off

Only firm admins can change these settings. Everyone else sees them read-only.

  1. Open Settings, then Assistant.
  2. Under Features, switch The assistant off to stop every feature for the whole firm, or switch off one feature at a time.
  3. For Build a chronology and Contract review, choose which roles may use them under Who can build and Who can review.
  4. Under Who can use it, click a role to turn the assistant off or on for it. Admins can always use the assistant.

Keep matters out

To stop the assistant reading a matter at all, an admin can leave it out:

  1. Under Your data, next to Left out, click Manage.
  2. Add the matter and click Save.

The assistant never reads these matters or their documents, and never sends them to the model. Anything it held for them is deleted.

Your data also shows how many documents the assistant has read, and Chat history sets how long conversations are kept.

Monthly allowance

Each plan includes a number of assistant actions a month. This month shows what your firm has used. Questions, summaries, matter briefs, drafts and next steps each count as one. Chronologies and contract reviews use one per batch they read.

Admins are told when 80% is used. When the allowance runs out, the assistant pauses until it resets at the start of next month. An admin can change the plan or click Buy AI pack to keep going. See your plan and subscription.
