Record a hearing outcome

After court, record what happened and the next date. Chronica updates the diary, can email the client and puts the appearance fee up for billing.

Before you start

The hearing must already be in the diary. If it isn't, add the hearing first.

Log outcome appears on a hearing from the day of the hearing onwards, until you record what happened.

Record the outcome

  1. Find the hearing on Today, under this week, or on the matter's Court tab, and click Log outcome.
  2. Under What happened, choose Held (the court sat and dealt with the matter), Adjourned (the court moved it to another date) or Vacated (the date didn't go ahead).
  3. Pick the next date and time. If the court hasn't fixed one yet, leave it empty.
  4. If the client must be in court next time, tick must attend and add What to bring.
  5. Add an Internal note if you like: what the court said, costs awarded, orders made. Only your firm sees it.
  6. Check the Charge appearance fee box. It is ticked when the matter bills per appearance. Untick it if you agreed not to charge for this date.
  7. Leave Email the client on to send them an update. Write What happened in plain words: what it means for them. Chronica adds the next date and what to bring.
  8. Click Save and email client, or Save outcome if you turned the email off.
Short on time?

If the AI assistant is on for your firm, Write it from my note turns your internal note into the client's update for you to check.

What Chronica does next

  • The next date goes into the court diary for everyone on the matter.
  • The client gets the update by email, if they have an email address on their record.
  • If you charged the appearance fee, it is waiting under Ready to bill for the next invoice.
  • If the matter has stages, Chronica may suggest moving it to the next stage.
No email address?

If the client has no email address, nothing is sent. Add one on the client's record to send outcome updates.

Questions

What if the court didn't sit?

Choose Vacated. Nothing is added to Ready to bill for that date.

Who can record outcomes?
