Publish your website
Put your draft website live, change your free chronica.legal address, connect your own domain, or take the site offline.
Before you start
You need a website to publish. If your firm doesn't have one yet, build your firm website first.
Only firm admins can publish, take the site offline or change its addresses. Anyone else can keep editing pages and the theme; their changes wait in the draft until an admin publishes. See roles and permissions.
Publish your changes
- Open Website, then the Domain and publishing tab.
- Read the Professional conduct note. Check your site against the NBA Rules of Professional Conduct on advertising.
- Under Pages with changes, check which pages will change.
- Add a Note for the history (optional), such as what you changed.
- Tick I have reviewed this version, including claims about results and fees.
- Click Publish website the first time, or Publish changes after that.
You can also publish from the site editor: click Publish, tick the same box and click Publish. The editor saves your latest edits first.
What Chronica does next
- Every page goes live at once, at your main address. A page you deleted stops working on the live site.
- The publish appears under Version history with the date, who published, the number of pages and your note.
- The publish is recorded in the audit log.
- On Website, Last published shows the time and who published.
Until you publish again, visitors see the last published version. When there are new changes, Website shows a warning with a Review and publish link.
If there is no home page, nothing is published.
Change your Chronica address
- Under Your Chronica address, click Change address.
- Type the New address and wait until it shows as free.
- Click Change address.
Links to the old address stop working once you change it.
Connect your own domain
- Under Connect your own domain, type Your domain, for example yourfirm.com.
- Click Add domain.
- Copy each record in the table (Type, Name, Value) and add it where you bought the domain.
- Wait for the status to change from Waiting for DNS to Connected. Chronica checks every few minutes, and DNS changes can take up to a day. Click Check now to check straight away.
The first domain you add becomes the Main address. If you add more, click Make main address on a connected domain to switch. A website can have up to 5 domains. Your chronica.legal address keeps working alongside them.
If the status shows Check DNS records, compare the records at your registrar with the table and fix any that differ.
To disconnect a domain, click Remove, then Remove domain. Visitors using it stop reaching your site.
Take the site offline
- Under Take the site offline, click Unpublish.
- Click Take offline.
Visitors and search engines stop seeing the site straight away, and enquiry forms stop working. Visitors see a "not available" page. Your pages, theme and domains are kept, and you can publish again at any time.
Questions
Can I see the live site?
Click View site at the top of Website, or Live site next to the publish button. Both work once the site is published.
I changed the theme. Is it live?
Not yet. Theme, footer and page changes all save to the draft. Publish to put them live.
