Search everything

The search bar sits at the top of every page and reads Search matters, clients, documents.

  1. Click the search bar, or press Ctrl K (⌘K on a Mac). On a phone, tap the magnifying glass.
  2. Type at least 2 characters.
  3. Use the arrow keys to move through the results, and press Enter to open one. Click a result if you prefer the mouse.

Results come in groups, with up to five in each:

  • Matters, with the suit number, court and next hearing date
  • Clients
  • Intake leads
  • Documents
  • Invoices
  • Tasks
  • Templates
  • Forms

To open a result in a new browser tab, press Ctrl Enter (⌘ Enter on a Mac). Press Esc to close the search.

If one group can't be searched just then, Chronica tells you under the results (for example Couldn't search documents) and still shows the rest.

Before you type

When the search box is empty, it shows:

  • Recently opened: the last results you opened
  • Recent searches: what you searched for recently. Click one to run it again.
  • Do something: shortcuts to New matter, Add client, Log time, New invoice and Upload document

Recent items and searches are kept in your browser, so they don't follow you to another computer.

Ask instead of search

If the AI assistant is on for your firm, a Search and Ask switch appears in the search box. Choose Ask to put a question to the assistant about your firm's work. See What the assistant can do.

Add something with the New menu

Click New in the top bar. The Anywhere section lets you start:

ItemShortcut
MatterN then M
ClientN then C
Lead from a phone callN then L
TaskN then T
InvoiceN then I
Upload a documentN then U

For a two-key shortcut, press N, then the second letter straight after.

Add to the matter you're on

When you have a matter open, the New menu adds a section at the top named after that matter. Hearing, Task on this matter and Document from template add to that matter. Time entry opens the form to log time. Each has a single-key shortcut:

ItemShortcut
HearingH
Task on this matterT
Time entryL
Document from templateD

Questions

Why didn't a shortcut work?

Shortcuts are ignored while you're typing in a field or have a window open, so they don't get in the way of what you're writing. Click an empty part of the page and try again.

I can't find something I know is there

Try a shorter or different word, such as part of the client's name or the suit number.
